Dianaberrymusic.com and Lovebird Records announce the release of VERY BERRY, the all-new thirteen song CD from trend setting songwriter, Diana Berry. In a recent interview Diana talks about her latest work: “The album reflects a very strong influence of energy. I definitely had a muse. The songs are all very inspired. VERY BERRY, which was named by friend, THE VERBS lead singer, MEEGAN VOSS, explores the whole vintage sound vibe mixed with contemporary rhythms, effects, loops, extensive pedals, and synthesizers. Specific guitars, Fender Telecaster, Taylor 12 string, Martin 00 and multi layered vocal tracks recorded by JAMES MURRAY’s custom designed microphones as well as the classic Neumann. We recorded digitally and then outboard mixed with old reverbs and effect boxes from the 1960’s and 70’s...Specifically British staple and BEATLES favorite, the Fairchild (I remember while interviewing mixing engineers my first question was do you have access to a Fairchild?) to create unique warm, vintage tones that the digital process couldn’t capture. I had the pleasure of working with fantastic people beginning the process with co producer/engineer ADAM CHARITY. Adam grew up surrounded by music (father, DAVE CHARITY, was a disc jockey at WPLJ during the 70’s) and has been working in recording studios since his teens. He has a huge musical encyclopedia memory and is also a very talented musician. A wide variety of guests made the recording sessions always varied and entertaining. DAN WHITLEY, younger of brother legendary guitarist, CHRIS WHITLEY, lent his original genius guitar licks on TWO TIMES and RUDIMENTS. ABE FRISHMAN, Nashville Bass man, played on all the tracks giving the rhythms great depth and solid emotional bottoms. Hip Hop sensation, P.I.C.’s, band members showed up for a few sessions; ZULU on trumpet and HORNY JEFF on saxophone. These guys are amazing players. I wasn’t sure cause I’d say things like play it like Burt Bacharach (LET’S RUNAWAY) or you know like the Sax in Savoy Truffle (SUPER SENSUAL) and they’d immediately hook into the vibe and it would be perfect. Also P.I.C. DJ, UN-G WASMABATI, gave us some hot original scratches for WILD HORSES cover. Next Violinist/Actress – SUSAN MITCHELL came in and layed down these intense violin tracks (TWO TIMES, NEXT TO YOU, DOWN ON THE FARM) that sounded great against the electric instruments. Italian/Greek Soprano, DONATELLA MOLTISANTI, offered perfectly haunting operatic background vocals while accomplished American actress, CHRISTINA HAAG, added a powerful dose of sophistication reciting narrative based on the ideologies of Joseph Campbell, Friedrich Nietzsche and Greek Mythology on ATHENA. I found my Fairchild in artistic mixing master, TIM HATFIELD. He and ROSCOE (former JOAN JETT AND THE BLACK HEARTS guitarist) run COWBOY TECHNICAL SERVICES, an amazing recording and mixing studio in Brooklyn, NY, full of vintage and contemporary gear. Finally the frosting on this extraordinary project came from world renown mastering God, the one and only GREG CALBI at STERLING SOUND. Greg’s client list is like the who’s who in the history of modern music. On the wall in his incredible studio is a letter from JOHN LENNON that reads something like whatever you think …I trust your ears. All in All it was perfectly profound. I feel very grateful to be on earth and continuously have had the opportunity to create music with such talented individuals. I especially thank Meegan Voss and Steve Jordan for being incredibly supportive and steering me in the right direction". STAY TUNED FOR UPCOMING NEWS TOUR DATES AND APPEARANCES!!!!!! Archive |
